Terms of Use
Plain-language terms for using PixelForge: free and open-source software, built on open-source engines, with no warranties.
In short: PixelForge is free software under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. Use it for anything, including commercial work, share it, and change it. If you share a changed version, it must stay under the GPL with its source available. It comes with no warranty.
1. The license
PixelForge is developed by Refora Technologies (“we”, “us”) and released as free software under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or (at your option) any later version (GPL-3.0-or-later). The full license text is in the LICENSE file of the source code, which is public.
The license gives you the freedom to:
- Use PixelForge for any purpose, personal or commercial
- Study how it works and change it
- Share copies with anyone
- Share your changed versions — under the GPL too, with their source code available
You do not need to accept the license just to install and use PixelForge. Its conditions apply when you share or change it. Where these Terms and the license ever differ, the license wins.
Versions of PixelForge up to and including 1.2.0 were released under the MIT License and remain available under it.
2. Your responsibility
Only process images you have the right to use, copy and change. You are responsible for the images you process and for what you do with the results.
3. Open-source components
PixelForge runs open-source tools that keep their own licenses. It downloads upscayl-ncnn and caesium-clt from their official releases on first launch and runs them unmodified, as separate programs.

4. No warranty
PixelForge is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, as set out in sections 15 and 16 of the GPL. In particular, we make no promise that:
- Its output will be accurate or suitable for your purpose
- It will run without interruption or errors
- It will work with any particular hardware, GPU or Windows version beyond what is documented
We strongly recommend keeping backups of your original images.
5. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Refora Technologies and PixelForge’s contributors are not liable for any damages arising from the use of, or inability to use, PixelForge — including indirect, incidental or consequential damages, loss of data, files or images, damage to hardware, or loss of business or profits — even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
6. Updates and changes
New versions are published through GitHub Releases. You don’t have to update, but older versions may not receive security fixes. If these Terms change, we will update the date at the top of this page and note material changes in the release notes.
